Can I connect Interactive Brokers to Claude or ChatGPT from Spain?
Quick answer: Yes. Interactive Brokers has an official connector for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok and, since 28 Jul 2026, any MCP client. But from Spain you are a client of Interactive Brokers Ireland, where the agent only drafts trade instructions: you review and submit them from an IBKR platform. Autonomous Trading, announced on 21 Oct 2026 to let the AI trade without per-order approval, is not planned for IB Ireland.

Interactive Brokers has some of the broadest AI access among brokers serving Spain, and causes some of the most confusion: headlines that "IBKR lets AI trade" refer to its US entity, not the Irish one that serves Spanish clients. Here is what you can do from Spain today.

What the AI can do with your IBKR account from Spain
- Research. The agent researches and monitors ETFs and reads option chains.
- Draft stock orders. The agent writes the instruction (e.g. "buy 50 shares of AAPL") and you review and submit it from an IBKR platform. Per StockBrokers, drafts expire after 7 days.
- One account. Authorisation covers a single account.
- What it cannot do: submit orders by itself. Only Autonomous Trading allows that, and it does not reach IB Ireland.
How to connect it
- In ChatGPT, Claude or Grok, find Interactive Brokers in the apps or connectors directory.
- In any other MCP client (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf…), add the URL
https://api.ibkr.com/v1/api/mcp-public. - Authorise access to one of your IBKR accounts.

Autonomous Trading: why it does not apply in Spain
On 21 Oct 2026 IBKR launched Autonomous Trading: the AI can submit stock and equity-option orders without per-order approval, inside a funded "AI Partition". IBKR plans it only for eligible clients of IB LLC (US and the countries it serves), the UK, Australia and Singapore. It also requires individual non-margin accounts and 10 approved AI trades of $100+ within two weeks. interactivebrokers.com
